The opening celebration of the Jubilee begins at 5pm with a moment of prayer led by the Archbishop of Malta in the Grotto of St Paul. The congregation will be able to follow a live stream from the aisles and the square of the Collegiate Basilica of St Paul, in Rabat. Afterwards, the Archbishop will join the gathered community, and during the liturgical rite, the Gospel will be proclaimed. From this moment, the invitation to pilgrimage will be announced. This pilgrimage starts from the same Parish Church in Rabat in a processional walk toward the Metropolitan Cathedral of St Paul, Mdina. The pilgrimage will be accompanied by families, married couples, engaged couples, and couples. These mentioned pilgrims are in fact the central focus of this jubileee celebration on December 29, the day commemorating the Holy Family.
The liturgical rite continues at the Cathedral in Mdina, where the crucifix, representing the virtue of hope, will be presented. The final prayer will be Mass, which will be celebrated at 6pm. This celebration will be in Maltese.
